WARRENVILLE | Tragic Killing of Warrenville Mom Shocks Community, Husband Charged

Updated: Sep 18, 2024

Police Called to the Scene by Husband After Shooting His Wife

WARRENVILLE–A terrible tragedy unfolded in nearby Warrenville on the morning of September 5, 2024, shocking the community. Jaime Neumann, a 47-year-old mother, was found dead in her home on Mulberry Court, a victim of a brutal shooting allegedly at the hands of her husband, Steven Kramer.

The Warrenville Police Department responded to an emergency call just before 11 a.m., where Steven Kramer, 39, met officers at the door, leading them to the devastating scene. Jaime Neumann lay lifeless on the bedroom floor, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds to her face, chest, arms and legs. The tragic discovery was compounded by the presence of the couple’s youngest daughter, who was with Kramer when officers arrived.

Investigations revealed a chilling narrative. Authorities found shell casings scattered around the scene and noted the presence of firearms within the household. Forensic evidence suggested that Neumann was shot while on the ground. Recently, the couple had reportedly decided to divorce.

Steven Kramer was taken into custody and charged with two counts of first-degree murder. During his first court appearance, he was denied pre-trial release, reflecting the gravity of the charges against him. His next court date is scheduled for October 7, 2024, where he will face a formal arraignment.

The murder of Jaime Neumann has left the Warrenville community heartbroken. Neighbors expressed disbelief and sorrow over the loss of a mother and friend, while grappling with the implications for the couple's three young children, now left without their mother. The tragedy underscores the often-hidden turmoil that can exist behind closed doors, prompting reflections on domestic violence and its devastating impact.

As the legal proceedings advance, the community continues to support Neumann’s family, mourning a life cut short by violence. A GoFundMe has been set up for her daughters by a group of moms who knew and loved Jaime, vowing to do all that they can to help her daughters. Additionally, cards and gift cards are being received at Ace Hardware and Towne Tap in Warrenville.
