On Top of the World!

CHICAGO–The far west suburbs of Chicago are known for their picturesque landscapes, and on this particular summer evening, the scene did not disappoint. Blessed to be surrounded by friends who share a passion for adventure, I have now officially checked hot air ballooning off our bucket list with Midwest Ballooning Adventures.

Arriving at the launch site, we were greeted by the sight of the vibrant balloon being prepared for flight. We watched in awe as they used a systematic method of fans to gradually inflate the balloon. The sheer size and beauty of it became more apparent. The colors, a brilliant mix of pinks, yellow, and blue, stood out against the sky. The air was filled with a mix of anticipation and the earthy scent of summer fields. The Midwest Ballooning Adventures team, renowned for their expertise and safety, welcomed us with a pre-flight briefing.

We could hardly contain our excitement as we climbed into the wicker basket with our pilot and 4 other guests. The burners roared to life, and slowly, almost gracefully, the balloon lifted off the ground.

As we ascended, the sprawling suburbs of Chicago unfolded beneath us. The checkerboard of fields, tiny houses, and a meandering river created a stunning mosaic. The higher we went, the more breathtaking the view became.

Floating gently above the landscape, We were enveloped in a serene silence, broken only by occasional bursts of the burner. The world below seemed to pause, offering a moment of tranquility and reflection.

Everyone seemed equally mesmerized as we watched the sun slowly dip below the horizon, painting the sky in deeper shades of twilight.

Our pilot began a descent, testing the winds, but then took us back up again. No one was ready for it to end. Throughout the flight, we shared stories and laughter, reminiscing about past adventures and dreams for the future.

As the balloon began its final descent, the ground rose up to meet us and the landing was totally exhilarating, adding a touch of thrill to the flight.

The flight crew pulled a table, charcuterie, and champagne from the van while welcoming us back with a celebratory toast. We raised our glasses with full hearts, a smile, and high spirits.
