BEHIND THE BLACKHAWKS SCENES
I have lived in the Chicago area my entire life and had never been to a Blackhawks game. I know that’s almost unbelievable to hear and a bit shameful to say out loud; however, I made up for it ten-fold on a very special evening when the Blackhawk’s honored Andrew Shaw #65 who retired this past year after 544 career games.
Not only did I attend the game with Shaw’s biggest fans, but I also took advantage of the unique Chicago Blackhawks Gameday Experience Package offered on special dates throughout the season.
The Chicago Blackhawks have teamed up with Fifth Third Arena, the practice home of the Blackhawks, to create a memorable two-hour pregame experience for gameday! Included in the event was Open Skate (with skate rental included) at the training facilities.
A couple of us had not been skating in more than ten years and gingerly made our way around the ice while others gracefully glided about seamlessly.
We could skate for as little as we wanted or up to an hour before making our way to tour the Blackhawks Locker Room, which was filled with famed jerseys, helmets, gameplay boards, and big screens.
After many photo opportunities we perused the hallways of historic moments highlighted in jerseys of past times, Stanley Cups, and plaques of honors.
Feeling like VIPs, we next made our way to a pregame buffet hosted in the workout facility on the upper level, and then capped off our night at the United Center watching the Blackhawks win in a unique overtime game-winning goal!
It was indeed an awesome evening filled with good friends, fun, and feeling a like a big part of the city we love. Parking between the two facilities made for an easy walk from pregame experience to seeing the game in action. Vaccination cards and masks are required.
