WHEATON–Jada Hudson was recently featured in the December 2023 issue of Fire Engineering Magazine, where she shared her professional knowledge and insight into a very important subject– addiction– and how it effects firefighters and first responders. The article closes with how to support addiction recovery for those who do not struggle with the disease, but who are close to someone who does.

Jada's featured article, Addiction: An Escape from Emotional Pain, shares about the impact that a psychological and physiological dependence on something can have on one's life, as well as common factors, including risk factors and risks of relapse. Anything that is done in an unhealthy amount to deal with uncomfortable feelings and emotions can become an addiction, writes Jada Hudson. This article is a valuable resource for anything who is facing addiction in their lives, including first responders and their friends, co-workers and loved ones.

Jada Hudson earned a Master of Science in clinical psychology and trained specifically to counsel first responders. She counsels first responders in her private practice in Wheaton, Illinois, Hudson Clinical Counseling, and is the embedded police counselor for both Kane and Kendall counties in Illinois. In addition, she counsels the prosecutors within the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office. Hudson has developed emotional wellness programs that are customized to meet the needs of Chicago area fire departments, has presented at FDIC International, and is the author of Firefighter Emotional Wellness (Fire Engineering Books, 2022).
