DOWNERS GROVE | 20 Downers Grove Businesses Burglarized During Early Morning Hours of April 7

Police Investigate as 20 Downers Grove Businesses Were Burglarized Including Shops and Restaurants with Shattered Glass and Security Concerns Raising Alarm

DOWNERS GROVE–Downers Grove is reeling after 20 local businesses, including retailers and popular restaurants, were burglarized in the early hours of April 7. According to the Village of Downers Grove, police were first alerted around 3:40 a.m. by a commercial alarm from a location on the 2900 block of Finley Road. Subsequent reports uncovered additional break-ins across the Butterfield Road and Ogden Avenue retail corridors.

Affected businesses include fast-casual staples like McAlister’s Deli, Panda Express, Buffalo Wild Wings, Panera, and Taco Maya. Witness accounts and photos show shattered windows and smashed glass doors at many of the locations. While police are still investigating, they have not confirmed if merchandise or cash was stolen. No suspects are in custody as of yet.

The incident has shaken Downers Grove’s community of shop owners, already under pressure from economic challenges. “This isn’t just about the damages; it’s about the sense of safety being taken away from our businesses,” said a distressed business owner in the area.

The burglaries come shortly after other notable theft-related incidents in the region, including similar break-ins in Highland Park and Deerfield. These alarming trends have raised concerns about security across suburban neighborhoods. To prevent such events, police are encouraging businesses to strengthen their security measures with improved alarms, surveillance cameras, and reinforced entryways.

Local law enforcement continues to investigate but have yet to link these events to a crash-and-grab theft at a Chicago GameStop store just 90 minutes later.

Downers Grove businesses are now calling on community members to support their recovery efforts while trusting authorities to apprehend those responsible. For updates on this ongoing case, stay connected.
