NAPERVILLE–As the story goes for many Hollywood stars, Colin Egglesfield grew up from humble beginnings. In fact, he went to high school in Chicago Heights, IL – graduating from Marian Catholic and going on to study medicine at the University of Iowa. Just prior to the MCATs, his path changed when he decided to start following his heart and live the life he dreamed about, versus the life that was expected.
Today, Colin is a published author, inspirational speaker, and a Hollywood actor, best known for his portrayal of Dex opposite Kate Hudson in the movie "Something Borrowed" and Soap opera fans may remember him as Erica Kane's son, Josh, on "All My Children." His extensive list of credits also includes "The Client List," "Melrose Place and "Rizzoli and Isles and he has been fortunate to have shared the big screen with many Hollywood icons, including two of his own idols, Sylvester Stallone and Gary Oldman.
Not only is Colin passionate about performing in front of the camera, but one of the things that inspires him most is his unique ability to draw out the best in his acting students so they too, are able to experience their greatness in front of the camera or audiences alike. In Colin's recently published book, Agile Artist, he details his incredible insight and the strategies he had to adopt not only to overcome the odds in pursuit of his acting career but also to survive cancer, not once, but twice. Colin’s inspiring message encourages others that they too can overcome their personal challenges and adversity in pursuit of what matters to them as well. His love for motivational speaking also keeps him active sharing his message of inspiration and practical insight to corporations, educational institutions, and charities.
Colin is excited to teach a four-session master class focusing on professional acting for stage and camera through the Naperville Park District from June 17 through July 8 at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center in downtown Naperville. This class is for actors and non actors, ages 12 and up, who are wanting to become better communicators, both personally and professionally.
“I’ve taken several acting classes in my life and one of the most impactful ones was taught by one of my favorite acting teachers, Margie Haber. Margie prepared me to win the role of Dex in “Something Borrowed” and several other roles that have defined my career,” Colin says. She wrote a book called “How to get the part without falling apart” which is a must read for any aspiring actor.”
