AWWW! | Brookfield Zoo’s Animals Receive Valentine’s Day Treats & It's the Cutest Thing

A SPECIAL DAY AT THE ZOO FILLED WITH LOTS OF LOVE

BROOKFIELD–Today, Valentine’s Day, several of the animals at Brookfield Zoo received heart-shaped treats provided by the animal care staff.

Ring-tailed lemurs—Moses and Skinner; Bornean orangutans—Heidi, Sophia, and Ben; Sheba, a 4-year-old binturong; and T-Mo, a 2-year-old Linnaeus’s two-toed sloth, all received heart-shaped treats made of a complete-balanced biscuit and gelatin. The zoo’s Galapagos and sulcata tortoises were treated to watermelon in the shape of hearts. And, Owen and Taylor, the zoo’s California sea lions and Kiinaq, one of the grey seals, received frozen heart-shaped treats. Only Jasper, a Major Mitchell’s cockatoo, was being finicky and didn’t seemed at all enamored with the red strawberries animal care staff offered him.

The Animal Programs staff is always thinking of ways to physically and mentally stimulate the animals at Brookfield Zoo. One way is by providing them with a variety of different enrichment and food items they normally do not receive on a regular basis.
