ARTIST OF THE WEEK | Molly Miklosz from Western Springs

ACCOMPLISHED ARTIST WILL NOW USE HER CREATIVE SKILLS & PASSIONS TO TEACH HIGH SCHOOLERS

Long-time Western Springs resident Molly Miklosz grew up spending her summers and school years involved in numerous art classes, clubs and public art projects. She was even fortunate enough to take a few classes at the School of the Art Institute. Now, after receiving her bachelor’s degree in K12 Visual Arts education, she will be using her creative skills and passions to teach high schoolers art at Intrinsic Monroe’s downtown campus. “If it weren’t for my teachers to push me creatively and technically, I wouldn’t possess the thriving passions that I have today to create,” says Molly. “I hope to be that kind of mentor to new budding artists.”

Molly’s favorite art medium to work with is colored pencil and pen. However, lately she has been perfecting the technique of cross-hatching with Micron pens. During quarantine, Molly organized a small fundraiser to raise some much-needed funds for BEDS-Plus (LaGrange) by drawing close to 30 cross-hatch style homes for people, and all the proceeds went to the homeless shelter.

Posting her art to her social media certainly has helped Molly sell a lot of her work. “It is such a great feeling that someone admires my art so much that they would like to add it to their own personal collection,” says Molly.
