BOOK DRIVE | Fox Valley Jewish School Collects Books for Local School in Need

STUDENT VOLUNTEERS COLLECTING USED OR NEW CHILDREN'S BOOKS TO BENEFIT A LOCAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AS PART OF GOOD DEEDS DAY APRIL 7
Anyone in the area is invited to swing by Fox Valley Jewish Neighbors, 121 S. Third St, in Geneva, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on April 7 to drop off used or new children’s books for any age. The FVJN students, who range from preschoolers to middle-schoolers, are collecting books for a school in Aurora that has a significant population of English language learners and refugee children. The books collected will be provided for the Aurora students to take home to enjoy.
The FVJN students also created tzedakah boxes during a February class (tzedakah means “charity” and is rooted in the Hebrew word for justice; tzedakah boxes are intended to collect coins and money with which to do good deeds) which they will bring to the drive on April 7. The money they collect will go toward purchasing healthy snacks for some students at the Aurora elementary school to take home on weekends, after teachers at the school said they know many students go hungry while not at school.
Good Deeds Day is a global movement in place since 2007 that unites 100 countries around the world in doing good deeds, with the idea of putting into practice the simple idea that every single person can do a good deed, be it large or small, to improve the lives of others.
