GIVING BACK | Naperville Woman's Club Donates Record $61,000

CHECKS AND SCHOLARSHIPS WERE GIVEN AT MARCH 8 MEETING
On March 8, 2019, Naperville Woman’s Club (NWC) held its annual philanthropy celebration recognized 15 local charities and agencies for their tireless efforts in making our community a better place. NWC presented checks totaling $49,100, a 17% increase over 2017/18, and awarded another $5,000 for three scholarships to students pursuing degrees in education, human services and fine arts. According to Dawn Dau, NWC philanthropy chair, “NWC members worked harder than ever to raise this money and collect these goods. We are very proud of our efforts and humbled by the community’s generous response to those in need.”
Annually, NWC chooses a Focus Charity. The NWC Focus Charity for 2018/19 is SamaraCare, receiving $16,000 from NWC. SamaraCare is an interfaith mental health counseling and organizational health-consulting group, based in Naperville with other locations in Downers Grove and Geneva. For almost 50 years, SamaraCare has been a leader in helping people achieve their greatest potential by being compassionate and spirit-led counselors, consultants and advocates. They treat the mind and spirit of children, teens and adults who are facing some of life’s most serious challenges. Donna Shaw, President of NWC, said, “We commend SamaraCare for their compassionate commitment to mental health. With their almost 50 years of providing important mental health services, we cannot think of a better organization to donate to.”
In addition to SamaraCare, NWC made generous donations to Loaves and Fishes, Peoples Resource Center, Diveheart, Hesed House, KidsMatter, Mutual Ground, shot@life, Riverwalk Adult Day Services, Artful IMPACT!, Blessed Bonds, Canine Companions, Clay Space, Naper Heritage Society and Aunt Mary’s Storybook Projects.
With an approximate value of $5100, NWC members also donated dental and paper products to the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans and Loaves and Fishes. Loaves and Fishes also received about 1700 pounds in canned goods and other food products, collected at NWC’s Witches Night Out Naperville fundraiser.
Background: The Naperville Woman’s Club is a philanthropic organization devoted to supporting the arts, education and community service. Founded in 1897, it is one of the longest established organizations in Naperville. The club’s headquarters are in the landmark building, The Old Stone Church, at 14 S. Washington Street in downtown Naperville. Each year, the NWC puts on the Fine Art and Artisan Fair at Naper Settlement, the Witches Night Out Naperville fundraiser, the Young Adult Art Contest, and supports three college scholarships. New members and guests are welcome to attend NWC meetings. In addition, the clubhouse is available for rentals for private events.
