SAVORY & SWEET SISTERS | The Walrus Room

Updated: Dec 22, 2019

A SUPPER CLUB OF SORTS The romance of the supper club dates back to the 1930s where dining started and ended at the bar, the relish tray defined the supper club and going wasn’t always about the meal as it was a social event. Strong cocktails and familiar faces were commonplace while the no rush rule was a guarantee. The Walrus Room in downtown Geneva is the modern take on the classic supper club. Embracing the warmth and community while erasing the need to go out only on special occasions, the Walrus Room is definitely a destination.

Partners Laura Bentley and Marshall McCarty live, work, and support local artisans. Building these partnerships is just another way they connect with Geneva and the surrounding community. If the old adage is true, a supper club is defined by its relish tray, then the Walrus Room is a step above. Seasonal pickles, homemade spreads, cheeses and charcuteries will set the tone of your taste buds for the evening. The cocktail list is creative and well balanced. The White Rabbit and the Curious Feeling are just as extraordinary as their names. Laura and Marshall have not only created a supper club, but one with class. The menu envelopes the surf and turf you would find on a typical supper club menu but takes it a step further with locally sourced ingredients, creative twists and expertly prepared plates. The lamb chops with a mint chimichurri and a piquillo pepper offer a light refreshing option. Shaved prime rib, with a touch of ceaser dressing topped with grilled red onion and tomato makes an ideal sandwich. You have to try a side of the truffle parmesan fries. If comfort is what you crave, try the chicken pot pie. The Lobster Bucatini, bucatini, lobster-demi topped with parmesan frico, is another delicious choice.

A few of November’s specials include the Friday fish fry, Saturday Prime Rib and the Dry Aged and Bourbon Washed Prime Rib. All specials include house salad, whipped potatoes and seasonal vegetables. Make sure to end the evening on a sweet note with a delectable dessert. The cobblers are just the perfect way to warm up when there is a chill in the air. However you probably won’t need much warming up. It is evident that Laura and Marshall know people, families and food. They are the warmth when you enter the door.
