BEAR DOWN IN HISTORY!

CHICAGO–With June approaching, Mom’s Little Black Book is always thinking of all the dads and fun activities they too would enjoy this time of year. Since football seems to be a common interest amongst most men, we headed to check out the tours at Soldier Field which included the South Courtyard, the Doughboy Statue, the Visitor’s Locker Room, a Skyline Suite, the Colonnades, and yes – the Field!! That was truly the most exciting part of the tour – actually being on the field! My kids took umpteen pictures and it most definitely was SnapChat worthy material inclusive with its own GeoFilter. We even saw the secret place where the players park their cars on game days!

The journey also included a historical video that takes you back to the years of Soldier Field’s Golden Age. Now let’s face it - using words like historical video can be awfully frightening for a teenager, but as it turns out, the information was so engaging, even they left saying, “wow, I didn’t know that.” Without giving it all away – did you know Martin Luther King Jr. made history in 1964 in front of 70,000 at Soldier Field, making it a key battle ground in the civil rights struggle?

Having lived in Chicago my entire life, I loved seeing the old meet new. Seeing the original seats and columns still outside the new structure was pretty cool. I also had no idea the field was dedicated to the real heroes of our country, and served a purpose so much greater than football - memorial stadium. Pretty remarkable!
