NAPERVILLE Calling all witches or wanna-be witches! Halloween is right around the corner, and it is time to get your spooky on. The Naperville Woman’s Club is hosting their inaugural Witches Night Out this October at Naper Settlement.
I don’t know about you, but I have two girls in my house who are all about dressing up for the occasion. I must admit, this mom does as well, as I may own three or four different witch outfits. The event includes music, food, raffles, ghost stories, psychic readings, and more! Witchy wear is encouraged, but not required.
Witches Night Out is scheduled for Thursday, October 12 from 5:00-9:30pm. It is a fundraising event organized by the Naperville Woman’s Club to benefit their 2017-2018 Focus Charity, Families Helping Families. Every year the club chooses a different Focus Charity to be the primary beneficiary of their fall fundraiser. Families Helping Families is an agency that assists families in need to become self-sufficient.
The Naperville Woman’s Club was founded in 1897, and for the past 120 years, their mission has been to support art, education and community service in Naperville. “I’m proud to be a part of an organization that has such a long history of service to this community,” says Julie Cunningham, President of the NWC and a member since 2009. “Six generations of Naperville women have worked through this club to help make Naperville a great community. I’ve learned a lot about Naperville and made some great friends.”
Besides their charity fundraising, the club is proud to benefit the community through other events such as the NWC Juried Fine Art Fair in June, the longest continuously-running art fair in Illinois, now celebrating its 59th year. They also host a Young Adult Art Contest for high school students in February. The club is also proud to provide college scholarships through North Central College, College of DuPage and Naperville Education Foundation.
“We are always looking for new members,” says Julie. “The larger events require an army of volunteers, so even if you don’t have the time to be a member, you can become involved by volunteering at an event.” Information can be found on their website at www.napervillewomansclub.org and more about Witches Night Out at www.witchesnightoutnaperville.org .
Mindy’s October Giving Inspiration: October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Many retail locations will be collecting as well as hair dressers offering pink extensions for awareness.
