Naperville Announces Telecommunicator of the Year National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week will be observed April 9-15

NAPERVILLE–Each year, as declared by Congress and presidential proclamation, the second full week of April is dedicated to the men and women who serve as public safety telecommunicators and dispatchers. The City of Naperville recognizes the vital link emergency telecommunicators serve between the public and emergency responders.

The Naperville public safety telecommunications group encompasses everyone involved from the first moment a call is connected to our Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) and City Dispatch centers, until the last line has disconnected and help has physically arrived. These individuals work tirelessly to ensure that when others need help, someone answers the call.

Along with honoring all employees of the Naperville Police Department Communications Section, the Public Safety Answering Point is pleased to announce that Telecommunicator Theresa Brock was named 2017 Telecommunicator of the Year.

Brock, who has been a telecommunicator with the city since September 2013, was nominated for the honor by a coworker, who wrote: “Having come to the City without prior dispatch experience, her overall hard-working attitude, going above and beyond for calls, rapport with personnel and willingness to help her coworkers has molded her into a well-rounded dispatcher.”

Additionally, Brock serves as a Lead Telecommunicator and was selected and trained as a member of the first Naperville Tactical Dispatch Team.

“On a daily basis, Theresa demonstrates her dedication to serving the Naperville community, as well as her commitment to her coworkers in the Public Safety Answering Point.” Communications Manager Kalah Considine said. “She excels in this profession and is very deserving of the 2017 Telecommunicator of the Year award.”

This year the City of Naperville will celebrate National Telecommunicator Week on April 9th-15th.
