March 2011 - PLAYLAND, SPORTSFIELDS, INFLATABLE

Just when the kids might be climbing the walls from the long winter, Westmont Yard saves the day with its vast and VERY affordable recreational solutions for all ages.

Open Monday through Friday for open playtime hours, Westmont Yard Indoor Sports Complex offers regulation size sports fields, a playroom, and a five level play structure for open play. I went there recently with kids ranging in age from 2 to 12 and miraculously every one of them was entertained from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a short break for lunch.

The fees range from $4 to $6/child for the full day of activities. The $4 fee will give your child access to the playroom with mini-fields and the play structure; while the $6 fee will give your child access to the playroom with mini-fields, the play structure, and the regulation size sports fields.

Our 5 hour day started at the large sports fields, moved to the playroom, bounced us out to lunch, returned to the play structure, went back to the sports fields, and ended back in the playroom. The kids were worn out and the moms were pleased with an active day that didn’t break the bank. The complex does have a café offering lunch and snack items but we chose to save some money at the $1 menu elsewhere.

The playroom offers a bounce house, an obstacle course, inflatable slides, many toys, tents, and Little Tike cars and tricycles. Directly next to the playroom is a mini-sports field that is filled with soccer balls and dodge balls for open play which is geared toward a younger crowd. The five level play structure is small enough for a toddler but large enough for a twelve year old to comfortably play within. Our group had a grand time playing hide and seek and running in and out of the various hide-a-ways.

The large sports fields were fantastic. The playing field is state of the art rubber infill turf that is comfortable to run on and provides cushion for falls. The center provides balls of various sizes for active play and the soccer goals are permanently in place. The fields can be used to play structured games or allow your child to run in circles and play tag, if they so choose.

Westmont Yard Indoor Sports Complex is located at 233 West 63rd Street in Westmont. Open Playroom hours are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Play Structure hours are 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; and Sports Field hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Website is www.westmontyard.com.
