April 2010 - FITNESS AND FUN

Getting fit and staying active is all the rage these days for kids. The Fox Valley Park District is joining this adventure with its E-Fit Interactive Fitness Room. Overall, this is a great place. In my personal opinion, it is a bit pricey by the hour, but if you ask the kids, they will tell you it’s awesome. Every child we went with was sweating by the time we left and definitely had a good workout.

The E-Fit Room is most enjoyed if you go with a group of people so you can have teams to do the various challenges and activities. The room is home is XerDance Dance Pads and a huge screen for the children to mimic the dance moves. There are multiple pads so many children can play at once.

The big hit with our group was the Sportwall Training System and Electronic Playground. In each of these challenges the children are giving foam noodles to swat at lights that blink on and off in various places of the board. As they hit the light before it moves, they gain points for their team or individually. These games can also be played with rubber balls to hit the various lighted targets. The kids formed teams and ran to hit lights as they relayed against each other. The staff in the room provides guidance and encouragement to the children as they take on each challenge.

There is also a Wii System in the room with a 52” TV providing access to Guitar Hero Aerosmith, World Tour Complete Band, and the general Sports package of tennis, bowling, baseball, boxing, and golf. Lounging chairs are available for spectators. Completing the room is a small climbing wall, as well as tube tunnel system for toddlers.

The E-Fit Interactive Fitness Room is located inside the Eola Community Center, 555 S. Eola Rd, Aurora, IL 60504. Phone is 630-851-8990. Website is www.foxvalleyparkdistrict.org.
